A social history and practical guide. An easy and fascinating read, Mercer looks at the history of spinning, not only the development of the machinery and techniques but the social aspects as well. He looks at the industrialisation and its parallel development as a lifestyle, craft and hobby.

Jacket is a bit worn with some very small tears, but generally pretty good.

Antique spinning wheel

This wheel has been used as a shop window prop in a knitwear shop. The previous owner didn't know anything about it other than that it may be russian. It's certainly very old, it's beautiful and fascinating to look at.

It is usable, I've put a drive band on it and successfully spun some wool, but it's not an everyday wheel. A decorative item which could be used for fun occasionally! (Cick the picture for more pictures and details.)
